    PROUDLY AFRIKAN

It has been reported by the international press that the assassination of brother Muammar Gadaffi has brought to an end a long and painful chapter for Libyans. As African youth and freedom fighters everywhere mourn the death of one of Africa’s brightest hopes, we take a look at the country that he has built and see a place that is perhaps one of the greatest models for Africa. Here are a few facts about Libya that cannot be denied:

    1. There is no electricity bill in Libya. Electricity is free for all its citizens.

    2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.

    3. Home considered a human right in Libya – Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi’s father has died while him, his wife and his mother are still living in a tent.

    4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.

    5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.

    6. Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kick- start their farms – all for free.

    7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government funds them to go abroad for it – not only free but they get US $2, 300/mth accommodation and car allowance.

    8. In Libyan, if a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.

    9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0. 14 per liter.

    10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion – now frozen globally.

    11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.

    12. A portion of Libyan oil sale is, credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.

    13. A mother who gave birth to a child receive US $5 ,000

    14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $ 0.15

    16. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.

    IN DEFENSE OF MUAMMAR GADAFFI

    PROUDLY AFRIKAN

More and more, African leaders are standing up against Western intervention in Africa’s political and socio-economic affairs. African leaders are slower to condemn leaders that are seen as bogeymen in the eyes of the West. Proudly Afrikans would love to believe the West has the best interest of Africa at heart. However, as a precaution, we challenged ourselves to find just 7 reasons why the West would celebrate the fall of Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi.

    1. Gadaffi established Africa’s first communication satellite network, connecting millions and depriving the West of billions in debt and interest revenue. Also relieving Africa of the US$500 million annual lease.
    2. Freezing the Libyan Central bank will hinder Libya’s efforts and contribution in establishing the African Monetary Fund, the African Investment Bank and the African Central Bank based in Nigeria which is already scheduled to begin printing African Money.
    3. Despite huge energy resources, Libya is known to have cash reserves of around a US$150 billion. The US on the other hand has a staggering debt US$14, 000 billion while Great Britain and Italy each have a US$2,000 billion public deficit.
    4. Inciting wars in Africa may revitalise Western economies. Perhaps why the  United Nations has  declared war against a people without having explored the slightest possibility of a peaceful solution to the crisis.
    5. To destabilise and destroy the African Union which was veering dangerously towards a United States of Africa.
    6. To deny Gadaffi’s version of democracy which is identical to the West in that it is a tribal allegiance of countries that know each other, share a common goal and essentially regulate themselves.
    7. Libya has a lot more to teach about wealth distribution to all the citizens of the world who fight for it. In the USA, 5 per cent of the population owns 60 per cent of the national wealth, making it the most unequal and unbalanced society in the world.

“The economy of any country which relies on the slavery of blacks is destined to descend into hell the day those countries awaken” – Adam Smith.

The following points were taken from the article  “Why the West Wants the Fall of Gadaffi” by Jean-Paul Pougala, a Cameroonian writer. Read the full story here: http://www.rightsmonitoring.org/2011/04/why-the-west-wants-the-fall-of-gaddafi-an-analysis-in-defense-of-the-libyan-rais/
